The heart and soul of the North Yorkshire Moors

Grosmont is a village set below the North Yorkshire Moors and is home to North Yorkshire Moors Railway Society complete with an extensive loco repair and remanufacture facilities dedicated to steam engines and their heritage. These facilities can be toured daily. Rides on the the steam trains start from Grosmont and go as far as Pickering and Whitby. There are many walks through the most beautiful countryside which start at Grosmont. The river Esk winds through the lower part of the village, picturesque with its clear water and home to many trout and salmon.


The nearest town is Whitby, famous for its Abbey, working fishing boats, a beautiful harbour and  fresh sea food of the highest quality. The beaches are spectacular and the sea offers a refreshingly cool swim. There is a respected golf course overlooking Sandsend bay and a large sailing marina.
